I love entering an event and seeing the producer added little unexpected elements that make the guest's laugh or say "wow". Event signage is necessary at every event and provides a great opportunity to surprise your guests while still helping them get from point A to B.
If you are using a large space that may be confusing for people consider placing signage on the actual floor. Here’s an event in NYC that worked perfectly for this unique signage. The name of the conference was "The Long and Winding Road of the Consumer Purchase". The venue was a large gray building with many doors and black cement floors. It just screamed for creative branding. They hired Event Strategies Inc. to create a "long & winding" purple brick road made from stickers they could pull up at the end of the event. Guests laughed and smiled as we told them to follow the Purple Brick Road to the theater entrance. The branding also helped guests easily find the undistinguished building from the street.
Windows in large buildings are a great opportunity to post your event name, logo or a welcome. It makes a "giant" impression on your guests while helping them know they have arrived. The words "Welcome" in 8 foot letters stops them.
If a venue has artwork that makes you cringe, and they refuse to remove the lovely pieces, ask if you can place your custom signs tastefully over the glass. Simply measure the openings and consider your functional signs to be works of art. Putting quotes or photos of the executive team in the actual frames of existing venue artwork is simply superb. Not everyone will see it, it's subtle, but those that do have a good laugh.
Having fun with signage is a great creative outlet, especially for those of us who have the checklist and stop watch in hand at all times. Feel free to add your creative signage ideas to the blog.
